Day 7, Aug 22: LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN
New friends are here!!!
A bunch of fresh faces arrived at camp today, excited to jump into all the fun. We quickly got all the new folks up to speed on the camp songs for the year, and spent a good chunk of the morning dancing and singing. Following the music session, we jumped into a variety of activities while people were called upon intermittently to workshop play scenes with Mike. If you weren’t working on coming up with a fun scene idea, you were probably working on an art project, making empanadas with Jo Jo (to be eaten with everyone later!), or participating in a discussion about the goals and values for our new home. Later on in the evening, everyone made the trip to the chapel up the hill to have a family discussion about how to best take advantage of our exciting new opportunity. The main questions we discussed were: What are we? What do we do? How can we achieve our goals? And ultimately, why are we here? Many good ideas were brought up, and we decided that our group was a form of experience/collective/family/community that would strive to stay connected throughout the year and advocate for/empower our peers. The conversation was introspective and allowed for everyone to share ways we could continue to collaborate, with a crowd favorite being David’s suggestion for a basketball camp! We hope that continued growth of this family will bring forth more and more opportunities to connect throughout the year and across the country! There were some board games played in the dining hall, and some people went out by the fire, before we settled in for the night excited for tomorrow.
