Day 3, August 15: Right Up Our Alley

It was a misty morning here in the Berkshires. Most of us cracked out our rain gear to make it to the dining hall for breakfast. Others of us had to get more creative, see Jojo’s picture for reference.

After breakfast, we had different activities happening throughout camp. From mystical creatures with magical powers, a Dungeons and Dragons story was created and a good time was had by all. Others carved stamps and created beautiful prints in art class. We also used a variety of paints and mixed media to create decorative pieces that we will use to decorate our cabins in the mean time. Some of us chose to embrace our inner-thespian in theatre class! And obviously costumes were an essential part of helping us to get into character.

Lucky for us, we already had the greatest rainy day activity planned for after lunch, bowling! We had the whole bowling alley to ourselves, so we turned on the black lights and turned up the music. We brought fun costume pieces and had ourselves the best time.

Then around dinner time, some of us went to check out a karaoke bar in town, but it turned out to be closed! So we pivoted and went to Tito’s Mexican Grill instead. Sue Herrington rated it two thumbs up, which means that we will be returning in the near future.

Those of us who stayed behind enjoyed the famous ‘Sloppy Jojo’s’ for dinner. Messes were made and laughs were had! Then we finished the evening with a movie night. The weather halted our original plan for a bonfire, so we decided to have s’mores in addition to popcorn for our movie. We enjoyed the classic movie, Parent Trap, and in true camp spirit tried to interject throughout the movie as much as possible. Today was a day full of switching up plans last minute, but we are happy to report that the most fun comes from the unexpected.

All the love, Ashmere

Today’s Interview with Nancy Connelly:

“It’s me, Nan!”

What is your favorite part about Ashmere?

“Sitting at the lake talking to Kara and meeting new people.”

What are you looking forward to most this next week?

“Prom and prom-posals, I am going to ask ******, it’s a secret.”

Who is someone you can’t imagine a summer without and why?

“I can’t imagine camp without Jojo and Sully because they were both in Mimsy and they were my first counselors. I had Jojo my first few years and I was with Sully when she was 16 and I was her first camper.”
