Day 4, August 16: Arty and Ready to Party
The sky’s awake, so we’re awake, so we have to play! Or maybe it’s the fact that Jojo is singing around our cabins as loud as she can, but really who can say? Breakfast was great as always and after we finished eating, we all got into vans and took off to the Museum of Contemporary Art located in North Adams, Massachusetts. We were split into a few smaller groups and each toured the museum with an expert. We got to view various art mediums and got in-depth explanations of why the artist felt compelled to create that specific art installation. We also had group discussions of how the art made us feel. Some of the group’s favorites were: an exhibition with wooden structures that look like a roller coaster OR a dinosaur, a printer’s toner inspired with the basic colors on one wall and black and white on the other, and rooms of color that made us feel submerged in a sea of water or a galaxy of stars.
“My favorite part about the museum was how the statues were in the room and how they were presented. They made me feel as if I was in the moment.” -Sue
“I liked singing Build Me Up Buttercup in the echo-ey pink dome. It was very calming. The room was pink!” -Desiree
“I liked to see the flowers.” -David
“I liked the path that went to the museum and looked like a tunnel.” -Sam Wood
“I loved the sculptures! It makes me feel so passionate and so that makes me want to be an artist.” -Ophelia
We ate pizza on the deck at the MoCA and then had some free time to explore the galleries. Then, we headed back to camp and returned to our cabins for some much needed rest and relaxation. Some of us who opted out of resting decided to head down to the lakefront for some swimming. Others of us had a dance party in the dining hall. There is no photographic evidence of either of those activities though, because the blogger opted in for rest time! Sorry!
We had a delicious dinner in the dining hall, and paused midway through dinner for a rainbow showing. Once people had settled back down into their seats, the rainbow doubled! The rain did not stop some of us from going and dancing in the rain under the rainbow!
We then cleared out the dining hall and made ample space for charades! We broke up into teams according to cabins, and took turns acting out different clues. We had different categories for each round like “pop culture” or “random camp things.” The Den came in last place during the first round so then they drafted Isaac, an actor, from the Cliffside team. Four rounds later, the Den came in first place and they renamed themselves “Team Isaac.” Honorable mention to Shorepoint for coming in a close second place.
After charades we weren’t ready for the fun to end, so we turned the evening into an impromptu dance party. We danced and danced and danced until finally we had to go off to bed to ensure we have enough energy tomorrow!
All of the love, Ashmere
