Day 1, Aug 16: REUNITED

Sit by the fire

In this season of chirping frogs and lingering twilight.

Tell us a story of grand distances and inner worlds.

Tell us of treasure. Of shooting stars.

Call upon your wildness. Come unfurled.

Today was a very good day! Friends came from far and wide to gather for our inaugural summer in the Berkeshires.

The day began with a whirlwind of COVID tests followed by heartfelt goodbyes to our families. It was exciting to descend the hill to Lake Ashmere, our home for the next two weeks!

After lunch, we settled into our new cabins. In the late afternoon, we gathered on (our very own) lake front! Music rang from the speakers as we lounged on the grass, splashed on floats and took time to catch up with one another after what felt like a very long year. Classic summer camp vibes abound.

Dinner was followed by stories and s’mores around the campfire. At a break in the forest edge, behind our classroom cabins, there is a path. The hum of frogs in the dark envelops you as you follow its twinkling lights to a clearing. There lives the fire ring that feels as old and wise as the forest itself. Around it, we told of how our years had been, shared funny and touching stories, and expressed how much it means to be among this family.

We took the day slow as we acquainted ourselves with this new space. By the day’s end, we we’re really easing into a relaxing groove. It is sure to be a memorable two weeks!
